A transformer is an electrical device that transfers electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction. A varying current in one coil of the transformer produces a varying magnetic field, which in turn induces a voltage in a second coil. Electrical energy can be transferred between the two coils, without a metallic connection between them. Faraday’s law of induction discovered in 1831 described the electromagnetic principle on which transformers are based.
Transformers are used to increase or decrease the alternating voltages in electric power applications. Several types of transformers are used in electronic equipment. The most common type is the alternating current (AC) power transformer.
A transformer blows when the current flowing through it exceeds its rated value. The transformer then becomes an open circuit and can no longer transfer electrical energy. The current flowing through the transformer depends on the load connected to it. If the load connected to the transformer is increased, the current flowing through the transformer also increases. If the current flowing through the transformer exceeds the transformer’s rated value, the transformer will blow.
There are several things that can be done to prevent a transformer from blowing. The first thing that can be done is to make sure that the transformer is properly sized for the application. If the transformer is too small for the application, it will be overloaded and will eventually blow. The second thing that can be done is to make sure that the transformer is not overloaded. If the transformer is overloaded, the current flowing through it will be too high and the transformer will eventually blow. The third thing that can be done is to make sure that the transformer is not operated at too high of a temperature. If the transformer is operated at too high of a temperature, the insulation on the transformer will break down and the transformer will eventually blow.
The best way to prevent a transformer from blowing is to make sure that it is properly sized for the application and that it is not operated at too high of a temperature. If the transformer is properly sized and operated at the proper temperature, it will last for many years.
